Insider: The Mood In Chiefs' Camp

Insider: The Mood In Chiefs' Camp

Amakhosi have currently lost 10 matches in the Betway Premiership and are sitting in eighth position but the two teams below them, Chippa United and Golden Arrows, have games in hand.

Despite these struggles on the pitch, insiders have informed Soccer Laduma that the mood in the camp is still notably better when compared to this time last year.

Sources close to Chiefs have explained that, while the situation remains challenging and disappointing, the players still have hope and fighting spirit to push for something meaningful, particularly a top-eight finish, in the remaining PSL games.

"After the Golden Arrows game everyone was just quite for some time in the dressing room, not knowing what to say. It was a sad moment. The mood was just sombre. It had been like that in the past. Then I had not seen that situation this season. Now, it was the first time to see everyone as sad as they were after that (Arrows) game. Yes, it's always bad and sad to lose or even draw a game but on Saturday it seemed worse. As I have said, the mood was so sombre," the Siya source stated.

However, a second source discussed how, despite the current struggles, the overall atmosphere in the camp is better than it was last season.

"The club knows they are not where they are supposed to be. But if they compare what was happening last season to this season then it's much better this season," the second source believes.

This second insider then went on to compare the performance too.

"They are looking at the way the team is playing and the chances they are creating. It is on the right path but it is very sad that they can't win games which look easier to win than to lose. However at times it feels like a repeat of last season and that's what makes the mood very sad. But management is doing their best and all they can to lift the team spirit. With the remaining games things could change for the better. But for now the mood is down," the second insider added.

Soccer Laduma attempted to contact Chiefs for an official comment on the issue, but the club had not responded at the time of publication.

Chiefs next face TS Galaxy on Saturday, 5 April at Peter Mokaba Stadium. The team will aim to bounce back from their recent struggles and fight to finish the season in the top eight.
