English Championship Scouts Happy With Mabasa

English Championship Scouts Happy With Mabasa

"There has been interest from other countries but now it's an English side that has enquired about him. That must tell you something. He has been doing well. Sometimes those scouts don't just look at the goals scored. They also look at different contributions the striker has in the team. And you know Tshego (Mabasa) is a team player and that could be the reason for this interest from England," the Siya source told Soccer Laduma.

A second insider disclosed that even though the team interested in Mabasa is not in the Premier League, they are a high-performing Championship side.

"No. It's not a Premier League side. It's actually believed to be a Championship side but one that is not struggling according to the scouts who have been following Mabasa's process. They are apparently happy with what they have seen and even the age of Mabasa as well, " the second insider revealed.

Mabasa, 28, has proven himself as a reliable goalscorer. He clinched the PSL top goalscorer award last season by scoring 16 times—part of which was achieved while on loan at Moroka Swallows. This season, he has continued to deliver, netting five goals in 18 appearances so far. He has not scored as much as last season because of the higher competition in the Bucs team.

Soccer Laduma contacted Pirates for comment but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.

With Mabasa's ability to contribute both on the scoresheet and as a team player, the interest from the English side reflects his growing reputation. However, whether the potential move materialises remains to be seen as Pirates plan their squad adjustments for next season.
