The New Striker Chiefs Are Monitoring

Despite former Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki having said the club was happy with their current squad, the lack of goals could have led to management monitoring a new striker.

Siya sources have indicated that the player attracting Amakhosi's interest could be Chippa United's Namibian striker Elmo Kambindu.

Sources close to the player and the two clubs added that the Namibian is impressing Chiefs, but with the technical team reshuffle in the last two days then it remains to be seen how that might change a potential approach for the player. Cavin Johnson is the interim head coach at Chiefs now, but he was already at the club as Head of Academy so there should still be a sense of continuity.

"For now I know there is interest from Chiefs and that they are monitoring him. As for when they can sign him I am not sure but as I have said there is interest in him," said the Siya source.

"He has done well so far since the start of the season. He has scored three goals in the three league games he has played which is not bad if you are considering the scoring ratio of strikers in South Africa.

"I don't know if they have approached Chippa already or if it's just in the monitoring stage at the moment," the source told Soccer Laduma.

A second source added how the 30-year-old joined Chippa last season from Costa Do Sol of Mozambique on a two-year contract and is set to be a free agent next year. It is not certain if Chiefs will prefer to wait for the end of the season before they make a move.

"From the look of things Chiefs need someone who can score goals urgently. They are monitoring him and are interested in Elmo (Kambindu) but I don't know whether they will go for him in January or if they will wait for the end of the season and get him for free," said the second source.

"But they have indicated that they need an outright striker right now, as they say they create chances but can't convert them," the source observed.

Soccer Laduma contacted Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United for comment but no response was received while this story was prepared.
