The future of Ben Motshwari as an Orlando Pirates player remains in doubt despite his new contract with the club. For the better part of last season, the player had been linked with an exit from the Soweto giants after failing to command a regular place under Jose Riveiro.
SuperSport United and AmaZulu FC are some of the sides the midfielder had been linked with, while indications from sources at the time were that the Randfontein-born star had been concerned about his situation.
However, the Buccaneers opted to extend Motshwari's deal last month to keep him in the squad for another year. So far this season, he has failed to make the matchday squads from the two matches played, against Stellenbosch FC and Royal AM respectively.
Indications are that the former Bidvest Wits man's future remains in doubt, although he will be given an opportunity to impress Riveiro and his technical team like all the players during the course of the campaign.
"Ben Motshwari is facing an uncertain future with Pirates as the competition is tough in his position in central midfield. He came close to leaving the team at the end of last season, but the club decided to give him a one-year contract extension, which could be his last one with the side," said a source.
