With defender Luke Fleurs now a free agent and looking to start fresh after leaving SuperSport United this week, the Siya crew has been led to believe that AmaZulu FC are among the potential suitors.
The Tshwane outfit were not able to guarantee the 23-yearold game-time this season under coach Gavin Hunt and despite the player putting pen to paper on a three-year contract earlier this year, he was released. Fleurs was almost immediately spotted at Naturena having been invited by Kaizer Chiefs for an assessment, reigniting the interest shown in the former junior international prior to the new deal at SuperSport.
The Glamour Boys were hot on his heels during the January transfer window as their search for a young dynamic centre-back intensified under then coach Arthur Zwane, who has since been replaced by Molefi Ntseki. But in the end, Chiefs opted to recruit Fleurs' teammate, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, and signed him on a free transfer effective July instead.
The Soweto giants are now open to adding the player to Ntseki's squad, although they are not under pressure to do so before tomorrow's transfer deadline. Soccer Laduma has it on good authority that AmaZulu could be in a tussle with Chiefs for Fleurs as they too are contemplating signing the defender. Word reaching this publication is that Sekhukhune United have also entered the race for the player's signature.
Amakhosi do have an upper hand because they were the first to invite the player for a closer look at their training session. However, if Usuthu – as well as Babina Noko – table an offer and move quicker, a deal is possible.
