Recently released by Kaizer Chiefs, Cole Alexander has signed a deal until the end of the season with Swedish outfit Helsingborg, but has not ruled out the possibility of staying beyond that.
The 34-year-old realised his dream of playing in Europe when he was announced as a recruit for Helsingborg, a club coached by Stuart Baxter. The ex-Bafana Bafana mentor, who is a respected figure in the Scandinavian country, worked with the midfielder on three occasions previously and have now reunited.
Speaking to the Siya crew recently, Alexander expressed delight at his move, hoping for an opportunity to stay longer than what he has currently agreed to.
"I've signed a deal until the end of the season, and we will see what happens after that. I just hope I can add value here and help the squad. I hope I can do well and maybe, who knows, I can get another contract on the table. That's the bigger… or my heart's desire. But we will see how it goes," he said.
Alexander, who has previously plied his trade in India for Odisha FC, has left his wife and child behind, but a decision on what happens next in their lives will hinge on whether or not he is able to get a new deal at Helsingborg.
