Truter Questions Big–Spenders Sundowns

Sekhukhune United head coach Brandon Truter says coaches can compete with Mamelodi Sundowns tactically, but claims the Brazilians' deep pockets is what sets them aside.

Truter has gained a reputation for shooting from the hip.

The coach is not one to mince his words and speaks his mind when it comes to pressing matters. It was no different after his 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs, when he was quizzed about whether Sundowns have wrapped up the DStv Premiership title.

Brakkies, as Truter is affectionately known, questioned the Chloorkop outfit's spending habits, with no set financial fair play rules set in the PSL.

"I saw the remark in the media as well. Sundowns are so far ahead of everybody but because of the quality they have. I think tactically every coach can compete against Sundowns but its down to the quality," he told journalists.

I think the rest of the clubs if you don't have the best young talent, we are settling, no disrespect, for average to good players, where Sundowns can just go and buy whoever they want – and that's where the fair play comes in."My bosses at Sekhukhune and the rest of the country don't have the depth of pockets that Mr [Patrice] Motsepe has. I think tactically if you can compete with Sundowns, that shows you that if you don't have money, you can come up with a plan and actually coach a team to compete with Sundowns," he said.Read: Maritzburg United Snap Up Top SensationYou must be Sign In to read and post comments.
