Renaldo Explains Why He Joined Sekhukhune

New Sekhukhune United signing, goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner has explained why he felt "it's a great opportunity" to join Babina Noko.

Leaner became Sekhukhune's second signing in the off-season after they had confirmed midfielder Jamie Webber from SuperSport United recently.

The 25-year old was reportedly on the wanted list of Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu but Babina Noko eventually won the race for his signature.

Leaner was given his big break in the DStv Premiership by Maritzburg United in 2021 after joining from Cape Town Spurs (previously known as Ajax Cape Town).

The Cape Town-born goalkeeper made 12 appearances for Maritzburg in the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season and played all their four matches in the relegation/promotion play-offs, but unfortunately the Team of Choice could not save their status and got relegated.

Leaner says what attracted him to Sekhukhune is the fact that they will be playing in the CAF Confederation Cup next season and feels he will have the platform to showcase his talent.

"I'm Renaldo Leaner, new goalkeeper of Sekhukhune United. I'm blessed to be part of Babina Noko family and I felt like this is the next chapter for me," Leaner said via the club's media department.

"Because I feel like in my performance I gained a lot (of experience) and this is the right place to showcase my talent and going to Africa, they qualified to play in Africa," he said.

Babina Noko number one goalkeeper Badra Ali Sangare is reaching the twilight of his career, at 37 and Leaner feels he is bringing his youthful energy to the goalkeeping department, that also has Toaster Nsabata.

"I feel it's a great opportunity for me and the goalkeepers in front of me, international goalkeepers, I can learn a lot from them. I can bring my youth, where I have more energy," Leaner continued.

"And to the fans, I can't wait to see you and make you guys proud," he added.
