Shock was felt throughout the football fraternity upon the news that Mosimane would be returning to the dugout.
Not so much that he is back in action after a three-month break. Rather, that he has chosen to take up the challenge of reawakening a sleeping giant in Al Ahli Saudi, who find themselves in the Saudi Arabian second division.
Mosimane's management team headed by his wife and agent Moira Thlagale, provided a bit more clarity via a statement on why the 58-year-old coach had opted for the challenge in the East.
"Having left Al Ahly SC three months ago, MT Sports has received numerous offers from clubs and national teams around the world for the services of Coach Pitso and his dream team," the statement read in part.
"However, the mandate that MT Sports received from the coaches was to only take on an interesting and challenging project that will enable them to have impact in turning a team into champions.
"Coach Pitso and his technical team of Kabelo Rangoaga, Musi Matlaba and Kyle Solomon, are ready for the new challenge. We are proud to announce that the decorated South African technical team will be heading to Saudi Arabia from September 2022 to join Al Ahli Saudi Football Club in Jeddah," the statement read.
