Last week, the Siya crew reported on City's interest in the 31-year-old left-back, which came on the back of Terrence Mashego making the move to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Now, the latest news reaching the crew's desk is that City have made progress in luring Lakay back to the club as a replacement for Mashego, with Siya sources in the know informing the crew how the Cape Town outfit sidestepped a potential stumbling block for the player.
According to the information made available to the Siya crew, the reigning PSL Defender of the Year's current package that he is on at Sundowns proved too steep for City to sign him outright, with indications that Lakay is part of the higher earning bracket at Sundowns.
As a result, City have opted to take Lakay on loan for the 2022/23 season, and are set to get the deal done before the transfer window draws to a close on Thursday.Read: More Exits Pending At Sundowns Amid Mashego Arrival?
