George Lebese will be hoping to get a new lease on life following his move overseas, and his South African coach feels like they can 'get him back to his best'.
Alan Koch, the head coach of Colorado Springs Switchbacks, is no stranger to Lebese's talents having kept a close eye on the Absa Premiership from the United States of America, and insists that the move could be just what the former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns man needs.
The 44-year-old Durban-born coach, who played for South Africa at youth level before his early retirement in 2001, is currently spearheading the Switchbacks as they undergo a facelift in the United Soccer League that has seen them launch a new badge and plans for a fresh stadium in Colorado.
Lebese had been on the hunt for his next challenge for some time now since leaving Mamelodi Sundowns by mutual consent earlier in the year, and his new boss seems to have big plans for the 30-year-old.
Speaking to the crew from Colorado, Koch said, "George is a player that I watched have success with Chiefs, and then also watched after his subsequent move to Sundowns… He is in need of a new platform to showcase his abilities, and I think we can be that for him.
"I am excited to work with him and help him regain his form, he is hungry to get going and we look forward to welcoming him to our new project. We're putting together an exciting team and have a new stadium that is currently being built to look forward to.
"Even though I have been gone from South Africa for a long time, I have always kept tabs on the teams and players, and I'm completely aware of George's abilities – together we will get him back to his best."
The Switchbacks hadn't won in 10 games when Koch took over in September, but he picked up four points in their last four games earlier this year as he looks to turn around their fortunes for 2020.
