The 45-year-old has worked his way up in the ranks as a coach, which has led to him being appointed by the England FA in August this year.
Fortune had also enjoyed stints with Reading as a Technical Coach, as well as Manchester United where he was an assistant coach with the Red Devils' U23s.
A few of Fortune's compatriots like Benni McCarthy have since joined him in venturing abroad, something that has left the Cape Town-born legend satisfied.
"It's great that we have so many coaches working overseas - hopefully they will get the chance to give something back to South African football in future," Fortune told BBC Africa.
"I hope they get the opportunity to work with the national team at any level. Surely it should benefit our national teams to use the experience of these former players," he said of his fellow South African coaches.

Fortune has never been one to shy away from SAFA's shortcomings has revealed that he would be open to taking over the reins at Bafana Bafana one day – if the conditions were right.
"Personally, if there's an opportunity to help the national team I would be keen but it would have to be under the right circumstances. We have great talent in South Africa that can compete at international level given the right development, training and opportunities," he added.
