Royal AM advanced to the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup after defeating Mbabane Highlanders 2-0 on Friday afternoon.
The two sides came into the contest in Durban evenly poised after the first leg ended goalless last week at the Somhlolo National Stadium in Lobamba.
Abram Nteo was on the touchline for Royal AM last week, as Dan Malesela and Khabo Zondo did not have the required coaching licence and sat in the stands.
Malesela, however, is seemingly set for a return to Marumo Gallants after the Siya crew reported that the coach handed in his resignation as co-coach earlier this week.
While the first leg ended scoreless, Royal AM managed to find the first goal in the tie just before the halftime break courtesy of a strike from veteran winger Elias Pelembe.
The visitors responded with a change after the hour mark, as Tony Machacha made way for Siwakhile Shongwe as they went in search of an away goal.
Thwihli Thwahla were able to see out the closing stages of the second half and managed to bag a second goal when Ruzaigh Gamildien bagged his second goal of the season across all competitions.
The South African side will now meet Zambian outfit ZESCO United in the second preliminary round, which gets underway on the weekend of 7 October 2022.
