The Cape Town-born defender, who left Stellenbosch FC to join Pirates, shared that it has always been his dream to wear the famous black and white jersey.
"Pirates has always been my team. I think I started supporting Pirates when I was 8 or 9 years old. So it was not a hard decision for me to make to join them when the chance came through. Yes, I enjoyed my life at Stellenbosch as that was home to me and the team was like a family to me but I have to realise my dream of playing for a team that I have always supported. Van Rooyen also sees his move to Pirates as a stepping stone to achieving his goal of being selected for Bafana Bafana.
"The competition at Pirates is very good. And that's what will help me improve my game and fight for a place in the national team. It's every player's dream to represent their country and my move to Johannesburg and Orlando Pirates will also help me with that dream we well," Van Rooyen added.
With Bafana Bafana already having qualified for AFCON 2025, set to take place in Morocco next December, Van Rooyen hopes to earn his place in the squad for the tournament.
