5 Things Pirates Still Need To Do In The Transfer Window

5 Things Pirates Still Need To Do In The Transfer Window

With eight days remaining before next week's transfer window deadline, Orlando Pirates might have a few things to do to finalise their preparations for the 2024/25 season.

The Buccaneers may have already progressed to the final of the MTN8 following an impressive start to the season in the competition, but the club might have a few things to sort in finalising the squad for the rest of the campaign to compete in the other competitions as well.

In confirming the jersey numbers for the season last month, Bucs had 37 players on their list although some changes have since been made to the squad.

For example, Azola Matrose whose name was on the list, has since been transferred back to Chippa United on a permanent deal, while other players are still linked with loan moves away from the club.

The Buccaneers have since also signed Deano van Rooyen from Stellenbosch FC as part of the changes.

The Siya crew looks at 5 things that Pirates may need to do before the transfer window deadline on September 20:

·  Loan some of the players that haven't been playing regularly to allow for coach Jose Riveiro and the technical team to work with a manageable squad.

·  Sign an experienced striker to replace Kermit Erasmus.

·  Sign an experienced goalkeeper to fill at least one of the two spaces opened by the departures of Siyabonga Mpontshane and Richard Ofori. Pirates have brought in youngsters Bayanda Zulu, Siyabonga Dladla and Ethan Visagie so far.

·  Appoint an assistant coach to replace Sergio Almenara. So far, Bucs have roped in Carlos Nodar Paz who is a physical trainer and performance analyst Devon O'Brien to strengthen the technical team.

·  Play the club's captain Innocent Maela more so that he can lead on the field as well as he does outside of it.

Again, this season, Pirates are seen as the team with a good chance to challenge defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns for the title, and have also been tipped by Brazilians coach Manqoba Mngqithi to push them all the way.
