Bucs' Sibisi Picks His Footballer Of the Season

Bucs' Sibisi Picks His Footballer Of the Season

Orlando Pirates defender Nkosinathi Sibisi has revealed who he thinks should win the PSL footballer of the season award.

The Buccaneers have bagged the MTN8 title this season and are in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup, where they will face Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs, while they have a good chance of finishing second in the DStv Premiership and, therefore, qualifying for next season's CAF Champions League.

Key to their good season has been attacker Monnapule Saleng, who is about to complete his first full season with the Buccaneers after spending a campaign on loan to Swallows FC last term. Sibisi feels the former Free State Stars player should get the award come the end of the season.

Saleng has been impressive for the Buccaneers in attack, directly contributing to 19 goals in all competitions for the Soweto giants. The 25-year-old has netted 14 times this season and has five assists, showing how important he is for the side in the final third of the pitch.

"Should I really answer that one? I would give it to Monnapule Saleng. I think he has been brilliant for us. He has been scoring goals, he has been assisting, he has been working hard. I, personally, think he deserves it. That's my honest opinion," the former Golden Arrows defender said during a Nedbank Cup media open day held at Rand Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

Asked if he thinks he has done enough to be nominated for the DStv Premiership defender of the season award, Sibisi said: "I will leave that one to you."
