A former Orlando Pirates player has added his voice to the growing list of those who want the club to consider appointing Benni McCarthy as the team's new head coach.
Last week on Friday, McCarthy officially parted ways with AmaZulu following a disappointing season by the team and in his place the KwaZulu-Natal outfit has since appointed former Swallows FC mentor Brandon Truter as the interim coach.
With McCarthy believed to be also on the radar of Kaizer Chiefs despite the Soweto giants still having Stuart Baxter at the helm, the former Bafana Bafana striker's name has come up in the same line with Pirates quite often as he is yet to officially confirm his next possible destination.
Former Pirates defender Lizo Mjempu wants the club to appoint McCarthy as their next head coach should they decide to make changes to their technical team for next season.
"With due respect to the coaches at Pirates at the moment, I am one of the people who feel that the club needs to go for a coach like Benni in their next appointment. Benni is Benni and everyone knows him, and he has big personality and he is naturally a winner and that's what Pirates need right now," said Mjempu, speaking to the Siya crew.
"I wish I could have a better way of describing him because I don't want to say he is arrogant because that might come out as if I am disrespecting him, but Pirates need a coach with that kind of mentality. Benni is a strong person and I know this because I was fortunate to have played with him and when I say Pirates need a coach like him, I know what I am talking about. Appointing Benni would be a good move for Pirates," added ABC Motsepe League side Bayern FC head coach.
