The story

After a busy start to the year for Sundowns, during which they played 16 matches, winning 12, drawing 2, and losing 3, Miguel Cardoso likely welcomed this FIFA break with plenty of relief.

Cardoso, who took over the Downs job from Manqoba Mngqithi in December, went on his first proper vacation in South Africa and like many tourists that flock our shores yearly, the Portuguese tactician opted for a safari getaway.

The former Esperance coach his wife visited the Rhulani Safari Lodge situated at the Madikwe Game Reserve, a conservation area in the North West Province, bordering Botswana.

Home to SA's expansive wildlife and famous big five, Mr and Mrs Cardoso enjoyed a five-star stay at the lush location, and were thanked for their visit by the lodge's blog.

"We consider ourselves fortunate and would like to thank Mr. Miguel Cardoso for his four-day visit to Rhulani Safari Lodge. The head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns F.C took advantage of the short break in the South African soccer league to take a trip to the African bush, together with his wife, seeking peace and relaxation after an extremely stressful time," read the blog, posted a week ago.

As the blog pointed out, Cardoso was able to escape the rush of Gauteng and the pressures of coaching serial winners at Sundowns, by embracing the seclusion and tranquility that a safari trip offers.

The employees at the lodge shared nothing but kind words to the Downs boss, with its manager, a Pirates fan saying, "Mr. Cardoso is one of the most down-to-earth persons I have ever seen."

"The Rhulani team wishes Mr. Cardoso and his wife a wonderful, happy, and successful time in South Africa and thanks them for the wonderful moments we were able to experience together," added the Rhulani Safari Lodge team.
