Having won the Nedbank Cup on five occasions in its various guises, SuperSport United head coach Kaitano Tembo says his side will go all out to win this season's last cup competition on offer.
The year 2021 will feel particularly uncharacteristic for the Tshwane outfit.
It is the first in which they failed to lift a single piece of silverware in recent years, something that has left the club's technical team with a reason for concern. Moreover, the club have also failed to progress beyond the first round of the Nedbank Cup in the last two seasons.
However, with the Nedbank Cup – the last cup competition for the year – concluding the draw for the 2022 edition, Matsatsantsa have been drawn against Maritzburg United in a match that promises to deliver fireworks.
Speaking to the media after the draw, Tembo has thrown down the gauntlet to his players to give everything to win a cup that the club is so familiar with, having won it five times in the past and being the first team to win back-to-back titles.
"Playing against Maritzburg in the Nedbank Cup considering that they are our first game as well after the break, we are playing them on the 15th of February in the league so it's not gonna be an easy game," Tembo said of his team's fixture against the Team of Choice.
"Looking at our past results in the past two seasons we haven't gone past the first round, so we would want to change that and go all out because this is the only cup that is left for us to really fight for.
"We feel that we have a chance to fight for it. Though it's not gonna be an easy game we have got the players and the team to go out there and get the result and progress to the next round," Tembo said.
The date and times for the clash will be confirmed at a later date.
