Full Time: Highlands Park 0-1 Mamelodi Sundowns
Date: 6 March 2016
Venue: Makhulong Stadium
An extra-time goal from Keegan Dolly handed Mamelodi Sundowns a 1-0 win over Highlands Park in a Nedbank Cup Last 32 match at Makhulong Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Sundowns controlled the possession stakes in the opening half, but failed to break down a stubborn Highlands Park defence.
The first real significant shot on goal came in the eight minute when Khama Billiat volleyed just wide from the edge of the box.
Five minutes later some good build-up play by the Brazilians saw Themba Zwane in space 16-yards out, but his shot was well-saved by the keeper.
Highlands Park first real attempt on goal came just before the half hour when Zivai fired inches over the target from 20-yards out.
Sundowns dominated the remainder of the half, but could not take the lead before the break.
It was 0-0 at half time.
Highlands Park started positively in the second half and should have scored in the 52nd minute when Simphiwe Tshablala broke through on goal, but he was denied in a one-on-one with Dennis Onyango.
Ten minutes later substitute Katlego Mashego nearly broke the deadlock, but he saw his effort cleared off the line by Highlands Park defender Rudi Isaacs.
Both teams lacked creativity in the final half hour and there were no clear cut chances on goal as regular time ended 0-0.
Five minutes into extra time Keegan Dolly broke the deadlock with a powerful long range effort which found the corner of the goal, 1-0.
Highlands spent the remainder of extra time trying to find their way back into the game, but were unable to do so as Sundowns progressed into the Last 16 of the cup tournament.
