Thwihli Thwahla have resumed the year with back-to-back wins, as they followed up their win over Cape Town City in the Nedbank Cup last 32 with another victory over Sekhukhune United in the league.
Royal sit fifth on the standings with 29 points, just two points behind second-placed Orlando Pirates and will leapfrog the Buccaneers if they clinch their third win in a row in all competitions.
The Chilli Boys, in contrast, have suffered back-to-back losses since restarting their season. Chippa were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup in the first round by GladAfrica Championship side University of Pretoria before suffering defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the league.
Kurt Lentjies' charges are precariously lying in 13th spot on the table with 16 points, two points above the relegation zone.
Chippa will be without midfielder Siphesihle Mkhize due to suspension after he was sent off against Sundowns.
Royal will be chasing a league double over the Chilli Boys after clinching a 1-0 victory in the first-round clash in September last year at Chatsworth Stadium.
