Shalulile Reveals Inspiration After 100-Goal Milestone

Shalulile Reveals Inspiration After 100-Goal Milestone

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile has revealed what inspires him to score goals after he recently reached a 100-goal milestone in his career for South African clubs.

Shalulile's brace against Belouizdad in the CAF Champions League quarter-final first-leg saw him reach 100 club goals since he started playing for Highlands Park.

The Namibian striker says he was not aware of the personal milestone during the game because all he wants to do is to score goals.

Shalulile also thanked his teammates, the technical team and the support staff behind the scenes for his latest achievement.

"When I scored the two goals I didn't even notice that I'm on 100 (goals), I only thought after the game because for me it's all about scoring goals, I didn't track," Shalulile said in a press conference.

"But it's an honour, it has not been an easy journey, from my teammates, I just want to thank them, the technical team and everyone behind the scenes. The things we do behind the scenes is the reason why I scored 100 goals."

The 29-year old also revealed that he is inspired by the great strikers in Europe  and scoring goals is something that he has always wanted to do.

"You know as a striker I always had the dream of scoring goals because I also look up to players in Europe who score more than I did. It's something that I've always wanted to do, to achieve," he continued.

"And for more goals to come I just need to keep on doing what I have been doing and keep on grinding."

Shalulile made his name at Highlands Park before he was signed by Sundowns in 2020 and also thanked the Lions of the North for giving him the opportunity to play for one of the biggest teams in Africa.

"The three years at Highlands Park was more about me being moulded, being made into a striker that I am today, to deliver at these big occasions," he said.

"Big club Sundowns, they have also helped me in terms of being calm, experience wise and that is something I really thank Highlands Park coaches for making me the player that I am and getting the opportunity to play for one of the big clubs in Africa to deliver," he added.
