It was just a few months ago when Mamelodi Sundowns were knocked out of the CAF Champions League by an own goal from Mothobi Mvala, but they have the perfect opportunity to finally put those bad memories to bed when they face Wydad Casablanca this weekend.
The Tshwane giants have made history by becoming one of two teams to reach the first-ever final of the African Football League (AFL) and there is a lot at stake in what should be an entertaining final between sides that know each other well from encounters of past years.

The first leg clash is set to be played away from home this weekend, with the second leg scheduled to be played on South African soil, which is the perfect opportunity for Rulani Mokwena's side to lift the trophy in front of their supporters.
Last season, Sundowns were also in a perfect opportunity to reach the Champions League final for the first time since 2016, but their dreams of getting there were crushed in the final 10 minutes of the game at Loftus when an Mvala own goal sent them packing, breaking the hearts of both the players and supporters of the club.
Sundowns took that defeat hard and it was evident in many of the interviews done by Mokwena and his players. They really felt that it was the time to finally get their hands on a second Champions League title, but with all that behind them, they have an opportunity to create history of their own by becoming the first club to win the AFL.

A victory over Wydad would also be big for Mvala, who took a lot of criticism on social media platforms after the own goal he had scored in the semi. Despite playing a key role in the competition, Mvala endured a difficult period of abuse online, but he has kept on working hard in defence during the Premiership.
