Competition between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns seems to have reached a certain level after the Siya crew was informed that the Brazilians are talking to Farouk Khan with the aim of bringing him to Chloorkop.
It is a well-known fact that Khan is a man credited with producing some of the finest talent at the Kaizer Chiefs Academy for quite a number of years and even though he has since established his own Stars of Africa Academy, he is always associated with the Naturena-based side.
Soccer Laduma has also gathered that the Amakhosi management held discussions with the TV analyst earlier this year with the aim of enticing him to join their set-up, but the discussions seem to have stalled since.
It is not clear at this stage in what capacity, if indeed they are interested in roping him in, do the Brazilians want to assign Khan since they have already employed former Sporting Lisbon Portuguese coach Paulo Cardoso as Head of Academy and Coaching.
The Tshwane giants have remarkably restructured their academy with Flemming Berg the Technical Director and if the rumours prove to be true, maybe they are hellbent on scouting and producing exceptionally talented youth products from their academy.
Already 16-year-old Siyabonga Mabena has become the youngest player to score a Premiership goal and beside being a product of their academy, big things are predicted for the U20 starlet. Percy Tau, Cassius Mailula, Siyanda Nyanga, Keabetswe Ramotsei and Thando Buthelezi are some of the graduates that have emerged from Downs' academy, but it seems like they want to focus more on increasing the supply chain from the academy.
