DSTV Premiership clubs will be looking to dethrone Mamelodi Sundowns as champions and this week's Friday Debate asks if the Tshwane giants will make it seven in a row titles.
Sundowns have been a level above the rest for quite some time and are proving to be the Bayern Munich of local football with the consecutive Premiership titles they are winning. The big question, however, is that can they be stopped? Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United appear to be the teams showing determination to end the dominance of Sundowns. Soccer Laduma asked two individuals if they think Sundowns will do it again this in the Premiership.
Brent Carelse - former Sundowns and SuperSport midfielder
I'd say Sundowns for obvious reasons - form, their star-studded squad and the strong technical team that they have. They have a strong squad that can definitely do it again. I think SuperSport United and Pirates can also cause an upset in the coming season, depending on Sundowns' form. This will be Rulani Mokwena's first full season as head coach at Sundowns, but I don't think that he will be under pressure. Obviously, he will want to continue with the bar the club and team has set for themselves. They will definitely keep trying to improve to take their game to the next level. They have impressed me already with some of the signings they have made, so I think they are the ones that are favourites to win the league.
Phetso Maphanga - Former Orlando Pirates and Swallows left back
When I look at the new season, I think coach Rulani will do it again. He is a top coach and a good human being to work with. I honestly think that Sundowns will win the league. They have a good squad and they can definitely compete again.
