Sundowns can qualify for the prestigious tournament in one of two ways.
They can qualify by winning this year's edition of the CAF Champions League - or alternatively, the Brazilians can qualify via the ranking pathway.
But for Sundowns to take the latter route, it would require ES Tunis to lose against ASEC Mimosas in Saturday's quarterfinal clash in Abijan after the first leg ended goalless.
By qualifying for the tournament, Sundowns would pocket a staggering €50 million (R1 Billion) just for taking part in the revamped competition.
The Brazilians take on Young Africans in the CAF Champions League quarter-final second leg clash at Loftus Versveld on Friday evening.
