Vilakazi proved his worth in Chiefs' opening match of the season when he came on as an inspired second half substitute against Marumo Gallants at a packed Toyota Stadium.
The 18-year-old showed nerves of steel that belied his age when he expertly slotted home past a hapless Daniel Akpeyi from the edge of the box for what proved to be a match-winning goal as Amakhosi emerged 2-1 victors over the hosts.
Speaking to the club's official website, the Tunisian coach revealed the reason why 'Obrigado' started from the bench, while sharing his desire to keep the youngster grounded amid all the fanfare he is currently receiving.
"I love Vilakazi; he's like a son to me, but I have to protect him," Nabi said.
"He's not starting yet because I am protecting him from all the attention because he is a huge talent and he needs to understand that when you start for Kaizer Chiefs it takes a big sacrifice.
"So, I must protect my young talented players. I am very happy for him but I also want him to remain grounded and work even harder," he continued.
Chiefs will have a few despite of respite before gearing up to take on AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on 25 September.
