Leonardo Castro Speaks Ahead Of This Weekend's DStv Premiership Kick-Off

Leonardo Castro made a return to action this past weekend after an injury lay-off, though the player revealed that he had not participated in the team's pre-season.

The Colombian striker picked up an injury last season when Kaizer Chiefs faced off with Stellenbosch FC back in the bio-bubble in August.

But the player made a quick return and managed to contribute to Chiefs' 2-1 win in the MTN8 competition last weekend.

"It was tough. I didn't really participate in pre-season and also didn't play in any friendlies. I needed to be strong mentally and I was happy having been able to contribute," he said on Amakhosi's official website.

"It's a new season with a new coach and a new league, which is now named the DStv Premiership. Everything is different – it's the beginning of a new era. He (Gavin Hunt) has brought in a new structure. He's also very clear with the players in what he wants from each and everyone."

On this weekend's DStv Premiership clash, Castro said, "It's the first of a long season of 30 matches and it's still a long way to go to the finish line. But of course, it's an important game."

Chiefs host Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB stadium on Saturday at 15:30.
