After conceding a goal in his first game for South Africa's U20s, Kaizer Chiefs youngster, Bontle Molefe, admits that he's waiting to hear what his Amakhosi teammates have to say.
The 16-year-old shot-stopper is being tipped for big things having already spent long periods of time with the senior team at Naturena despite his young age, and was given a chance to shine at the COSAFA U20 Championship at the weekend in the game against Madagascar.
Though he wasn't able to pick up a clean sheet, South Africa did secure a point in the game as it finished 1-1 and remain on top of Group B in Zambia going into their final group match against Lesotho this afternoon.
Molefe, who will be eager to retain his place when the game gets underway at 15h30 today, explained that he knows the likes of Itumeleng Khune and Daniel Akpeyi won't be happy that he conceded, saying, "To be honest, I was actually thinking about what they are going to say‚ because we always have this thing about keeping clean sheets, you know. We always tell each other going into a game that we're going to keep a clean sheet.
"After the tournament, after camp, I know I am going to have to go back and tell them I conceded in my first game! They won't be mad at me‚ but they're going to be‚ like‚ 'OK‚ it's fine‚ but I wish we didn't conceded that goal.' But we're going to come back and hopefully I won't concede again."
And he's confident the team can progress into the next stage – they only need a draw to do so – and potentially go all the way and defend the trophy that they won last year, adding, "The pressure was on all of us‚ as a team we go there telling ourselves we have to win this game because it is like the final of the group stages. The pressure is on each of us to perform.
"We want to win‚ as the defending champions we want to continue that legacy and keep it going. We will never slow down or give up."
