Kaizer Chiefs Guard Against Champions League Upset

Kaizer Chiefs Guard Against Champions League Upset

Kaizer Chiefs defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele has been around long enough to know that any score line, no matter how big it is, can be overturned.

Amakhosi take on Simba in the CAF Champions League second leg quarterfinal this afternoon and go in with a 4-0 lead after their rampant display in the first leg tie.

There have been some impressive comebacks in the past, both on the continent and beyond, so Mphahlele is not getting ahead of himself going into the clash against the Tanzanian giants.

"We have a 4-0 lead, but we've seen games in the past. We've seen Barcelona beat Liverpool at home and then they go to England and it's a completely different story. I think in 2015 or 2016, the same Simba was beaten four and then when that team went to Tanzania, they got six. So, we are aware that we have to be very strong and be prepared mentally," Mphahlele told the Amakhosi media department.

"Coach Gavin Hunt told us while we were in South Africa that it's only half time and we still have another game to play. We will fight and we know what's at stake. We need to get to the top four."

Amakhosi are likely to start with the experienced Itumeleng Khune in goal, after Bruce Bvuma featured in the first leg tie last weekend.
