After Kaizer Chiefs' humiliating defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout, Soccer Laduma analyzes the market value of both sets of players and whether Chiefs still need more quality players to compete.
Comparing both teams, at least from the starting 11, Sundowns, as expected fielded an expensively assembled team, with Teboho Mokoena and Marcelo Allende the most valued players in the match, at R45, 5 million each.
Chiefs did not have any player of that high quality in terms of market value, as their most valued players were Reeve Frosler and Njabulo Blom, both valued at R19 million apiece.
The Tshwane giants appeared to have an upper hand in their strike force, as the front trio of Peter Shalulile, Iqraam Rayners and Lucas Ribeiro Costa had a combined market value of R106 million.

Amakhosi, who had a frustrating and quiet evening in attack, could only present Ranga Chivaviro, Wandile Duba, Gaston Sirino and Mduduzi Shabalala, with the four of them not getting close to Sundowns' front three in market value, as they totalled R24,6 million combined.
In goal, the Brazilians had captain for both club and country Ronwen Williams, who became the first Africa-based goalkeeper to be shortlisted for the Ballon d'Or Best Goalkeeper of The Year award, valued at R19, 5 million.
Chiefs, who conceded four goals, had Rwanda number one shot-stopper Fiacre Ntwari, who is valued at R9,5 million - R10 million short of Williams.
The centre-back pairings also present an interesting comparison, as both Sundowns defenders, Mothobi Mvala and Grant Kekana are valued at R30,4 million combined while the centre back duo of the Glamour Boys, Inacio Miguel and Rushwin Dortley weigh R12,3 million combined, in terms of their market value.
