With Kaizer Chiefs fans appearing to be keen to see defender Erick Mathoho back in the line-ups for the team, a former Amakhosi player has weighed in on the veteran's absence.
Mathoho has been a notable absentee from coach Arthur Zwane's line-ups, having made only one appearance in injury time as a last minute substitute against SuperSport United, as the likes of Zitha Kwinika, Siyabonga Ngezana and new signing Edmilson Dove among others, have been playing ahead of the veteran at centre-back.

However, with the preliminary starting line-ups for the Carling Black Label Cup out, indications are that a number of Chiefs supporters want to see Tower make a return to the side, as voted by fans.
Speaking to the Siya crew, former Chiefs midfielder Humphrey Mlwane said he would also like to see the 32-year-old playing.
"For his experience and leadership qualities, for me, he would be in the starting line-up and playing regularly. I strongly believe that he is still needed to add his experience at the back for Chiefs because some of these players that are playing there are still young and they do need a seasoned campaigner around them to lead," said Mlwane.

"But we are not the same (as coaches), and I don't coach at that level, but I wouldn't leave him out of my team for his leadership qualities that he possesses. Looking at that Chiefs team, I think he is the most experienced defender in the entire squad. But coaches don't see situations in the same way although I don't think he (Mathoho) made a lot of mistakes to put him out completely," he said.
