Ditlhokwe Sale: Good Business Or Bad Mistake?

Ditlhokwe Sale: Good Business Or Bad Mistake?

With Thatayaone Ditlhokwe believed to be heading out at Kaizer Chiefs, there are two questions that pop up; is it a good business decision or a bad mistake?

Amakhosi are believed to have agreed a deal to sell the Botswana national team captain to Libyan giants Al-Ittihad, with an announcement imminent.

Chiefs signed Ditlhokwe on a free from SuperSport and have the potential to make a big profit from the sale, which makes business sense for the Soweto giants. But with Ditlhokwe proving to be one of the more reliable players in the defence this season, could it be that Amakhosi are taking a risk by letting him go now?

Ditlhokwe has been playing at left back and has delivered good shifts in that position. He is more comfortable as a left-sided centre back, but with Rushwin Dortley preferred in that position, he has had to play at left back.

Chiefs have been struggling with the left back position. Bradley Cross was signed this season and has played there, but has not always delivered. Happy Mashiane does not seem to be trusted to be starter at Chiefs, while Bongani Sam has been linked with an exit. It could be a big risk Chiefs are making.

Former Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi gave his opinion on the matter, saying he would rather have the player leaving at the end of the season.

"This is a tricky one, to be honest. He has been filling in at left back even though there is Cross and Mashiane. But if the team is selling him, then maybe they have a plan to replace him. For me, it would make more sense to let him go at the end of the season, because now they are trying to find a consistent back four," Tsotetsi said to the Siya crew.

"He adds that stability. Remember he is an international player, so there is a lot that he brings. He is versatile because he can be played as a left back or left centre back."

It remains to be seen how Chiefs will fare, should the defender leave.
