Zwane Responds To Speculation On His Chiefs Future

Zwane Responds To Speculation On His Chiefs Future

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane is confident on building on his first season amid speculation around his future.

Zwane cut a confident figure despite their 1-0 loss to Cape Town City on the final day of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership in which Amakhosi finished in a disappointing fifth place.

The loss cast further doubt over whether Zwane is the right man to lead the Glamour Boys in their chase to restore the club's glory to when they were known as the South African Cup kings.

However, '10111', as Zwane is known, says he has developed a thick skin in his first season in charge of Amakhosi and is confident he can take the lessons learnt in the current campaign to mount a stronger charge next season.

"I'm a believer, I am a hard worker [and] if there's one thing that football taught me is, never be in the game if you don't have a big heart. In football you develop a thick skin, I'm not the first one to be in this situation. I've seen coaches struggle in their first season and they come up stronger the following season," he told journalists at FNB Stadium.

"It was more of a learning season for me now being the head and making decisions with the help of other technical team members – but I've always been the supporting member of the team, supporting other coaches that have been here before. So, this time around I had to do things the way I thought would help the team, and as much as it was a learning season, it was a productive one in terms of learning things that you should have done, because when you do introspection, you always see you should have done this or that, in terms of players coming in, because for Kaizer Chiefs you need players that can dig deeper, because other teams triple their efforts when playing against Chiefs," he continued.

It remains to be seen whether Chiefs' management maintain the same belief as Zwane, with Siya sources informing the crew that the club's hierarchy are strongly considering their options - one of which might be parting ways with Zwane- before the start of the new season.
