Sundowns got back to winning ways both in the DStv Premiership and the CAF Champions League with wins over CR Belouizdad and Richards Bay, respectively.
With the season nearing its culmination, naturally talk has moved on to the end of season awards, with the Player of the Season award being one of the biggest talking points.
Speaking to the media after their win over the Natal Rich Boyz, Mokwena revealed four Sundowns players in Teboho Mokwena, Ronwen Williams, Cassius Mailula and Themba Zwane who he feels should get the nod for the award, given their domestic dominance this season.
"I've said it on matchday 19 and 20. I said what are we waiting for? When are we going to have this discussion? It's clear that it's Sundowns players in the top, why are we not having this discussion already? We're waiting for a surprise to come. Tebza, you should discuss that, Ronwen, you should discuss that, and then maybe you open the door for Cassius [Mailula], Mshishi [Themba Zwane]. The Sundowns players have been incredible. To do what they've done consistently, not five times, takes some effort," Mokwena told journalists.
"Fortunately, I'm not part of the judging panel but maybe the judges can also tell you that they are very honest, and this has probably been the easiest Footballer of the Season that they have had in many, many years.
I've given you that shortlist and they've got to choose between the four names," he continued.
Mokwena's Sundowns have won the DStv Premiership, and they are still in the running for the coveted CAF Champions League where they find themselves in a comfortable 4-1 first leg aggregate quarterfinal lead.
