The story
Today, Cape Town City FC finally officially announced the signing of former Bafana Bafana midfielder Serero on a free transfer.
Serero's announcement follows after confirmation from coach Muhsin Ertugral, who revealed the acquisition of the skilful baller last week.
At 34 years old, Serero makes the return to Mzansi after an impressive 14-year stint abroad, which began in 2011 when he joined Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam, enjoying a six-season spell.
Throughout his time overseas, Serero also played for clubs like Vitesse in the Netherlands and UAE Pro League teams Al Jazira and Khorfakkan.
The midfielder has been training with City for the past two weeks and will add a wealth of experience and quality to the side that currently sits 10th in the Betway Premiership.
Serero will don the number 8 jersey, which was worn by Lebohang Manyama, Teko Modise and Mpho Makola in the past, signalling that City reserve this number to it's superstar technicians in the middle of the park.
"CREAM IS BACK," wrote Modise on Serero's announcement video post shared by the Citizens' IG page. With Lebogang Manyama being CT City's assistant coach, 'Cream' has a lot to live up to match the levels shown by Modise and Manyama.
Here's a look at some of Modise, Manyama and Makola's best moments as Cape Town City stars:
