On Monday, Orlando Pirates helped hand over a new multi-purpose sports court to Job Rathebe Junior Secondary School in Orlando East, Soweto.
The Buccaneers joined forces with Nedbank and The Sports Trust to open the multi-purpose court, in efforts to celebrate sports development and community empowerment.
This initiative underscores the ongoing dedication by the aforementioned parties to developing the future of sports in Mzansi and to empower young athletes from underprivileged backgrounds.
Speaking at the at hand over event, Pirates midfielder Miguel Timm highlighted the value of these projects and the excitement the facility will bring to the children at the school.
"I'm very happy, I was here last year. At a different school of course, so, I enjoyed that moment. I was once a kid, so were we all. And to have such a facility for the kids, brings a lot of excitement. It's a pleasure for us, as players. This is a bit of a thank you to them, for being with us throughout the [2023/24] season, these are part of the people that fill up the stadium, this is in the heart of Orlando," said the experienced campaigner in a video shared by Pirates' social media team, adding:
"We saw the happiness on their faces and the parents are here too, to witness this day. Let's hope we can do it again and continue to look after the areas in and around Orlando."

The newly unveiled multipurpose sports court, which supports a variety of activities including soccer, netball, basketball, volleyball, and tennis, is the second facility of its kind established by Nedbank and The Sports Trust in the region.
Following last year's installation of a similar court at Lofentse Girls High School in Orlando East—marking it as the first all-girls school to receive such a facility—this initiative highlights the shared commitment of all partners to promote sports development across genders and encourage a healthy, active lifestyle among the youth in Soweto.
This latest handover is part of the 2023/2024 Nedbank Cup season prize, with Orlando Pirates, the tournament champions, choosing to support their community by awarding the new court to Job Rathebe Junior Secondary School.
