Many top footballers in the game can tell their very own "rags to riches" story and inspire many in the process. Romelu Lukaku is one such player, and he recently opened up about his upbringing. Did you see it?
The 25-year-old Belgian recently wrote for The Players' Tribune and shared his life story, revealing some of the most spine-chilling moments while living in poverty as a youngster.
One of the many revelations the Manchester United star made in the piece was that his family was so poor that his mother would stretch milk by mixing it with water.
He also mentioned that his mom did all in her power to feed him and his little brother, even if it meant borrowing bread from a local bakery.
Lukaku also spoke about how he supported his mother and that despite going through many hardships, he never complained as he did not want to stress his mother out.
He eventually reached a point when he felt enough was enough, and from then on did all in his power to turn his family's fortunes around by making the most of his football talents.
