Kaizer Chiefs' 54th birthday celebrations

Although Kaizer Chiefs' birthday is officially on 7 January, the club came together on Monday afternoon to commemorate its 54th year in existence.

Founder and chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung and his children were there to celebrate the institution with its dedicated employees, and the first team stars who also got a nice send-off to their upcoming mid-season camp.

The club also used their birthday celebrations to pray and observe a moment of silence for the victims of the 1991 Orkney Disaster, the lives of 42 supporters were lost in a crowd stampede during a pre-season friendly match between Chiefs and Orlando Pirates at the Oppenheimer Stadium in the North West.

"A special day for many reasons: Dr. Kaizer Motaung addressed staff and players as Amakhosi gathered to celebrate the Club's 54th anniversary after we all returned to the KC Headquarters. We prayed and observed a moment of silence for families affected by the Orkney Disaster of 1991.

"We gathered to also send the senior team off to camp as we gear up for the new year and the second half of the season. We are grateful for the opportunity to represent and serve this brand," read a post from Chiefs' Instagram page.
