The story
Itumeleng Khune's story with Kaizer Chiefs started in 1999 as part of their youth team. However, it appears that the former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, who will turn 37 next month, may have already concluded his time with the club, as a player.
Khune only managed five league appearances this season, a campaign marred by his suspension in the middle of the season and yet another trophyless campaign for the Soweto giants.
During Chiefs' last DStv Premiership home game of the season against Polokwane City at FNB Stadium, Khune was commemorated for his remarkable 25-year association with the Soweto giants. Nevertheless, the celebration took place before the match in front of a largely vacant stadium.
Chiefs experienced a disappointing season, marked by their 12th defeat in the league campaign, causing them to drop out of the top eight to 10th place in the final round of fixtures this past weekend.
Today was an important day for Itumeleng Khune.

Despite Khune's rather underwhelming on-pitch farewell, the player has been in a celebratory mood of late and seems to have commissioned a special painting from Tebogo Mokgophe at 3qs Canvas Art.
Tebogo's recent projects has seen him do work for Sphelele Mkhulisi, Neo Maemo, Sibongiseni "Ox" Mthethwa, Lesiba Nku and commemoration effort for the late Luke Fleurs.
For Khune, the artist put together some portraits of Khune representing Amakhosi over the last two decades and Bafana Bafana, earning 91 caps for the national men's team.
