SCOUT REPORT
In an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, University of Johannesburg coach Karabo Mogudi provided his thoughts on TS Galaxy right-wing back Sechaba Monkhe. The versatile and speedy talent, born in 2007, caught the eye with his composed performances at the Engen Knockout Challenge this past weekend, leading to Mogudi to believe the club's senior team could, in the future, have a reliable player on their hands.
Tell us about Monkhe...
I've only watched one match from him. We have to move around, you know, we're not only in one area of the field. But yeah, but a very good young man, very very good young man. Speedy. He's more like Tlou Segolela. The 'Gautrain' himself. So, he models himself... for him I think he is closer to the 'Gautrain', but he models himself around Khuliso Mudau. You know, very versatile on the right side of the field, but he's got the speed of Thapelo Morena with the calmness of Mudau on the ball, you know. He's also very skillful, you know, very, very skillful, takes people one-on-one, he's not afraid to go forward, you know, right-footed young man. He'll play in the Engen tournament again next year because he was born in 2007.
Is he one for the future?
I think he's a young man that TS Galaxy can count on going forward in the future. But he's also got defensive skills as well. He is not afraid to track back. His communication as well, he talks to his teammates. So, yeah, I don't know how we got to profile these guys so early in the tournament because all of them have really shown up throughout the tournament!
What is Monkhe's best role?
He also functions higher up. As I mentioned, I think he's got the speed of Thapelo Morena and Tlou Segolela. But you know, he sees himself as a right-wing back, but I see him as a right-winger. He's speedy. You know that as coaches, we profile players differently to how maybe sometimes they might profile themselves. For instance, he will play wing back, but I think he's got speed over five metres. He's got that burst of speed over five metres that I think a lot of wingers possess at the high level.
