SCOUT REPORT
Attending the Cape Town leg of the 2024 Engen Knockout Challenge to enjoy the football and to observe the talented young players the Mother City has to offer, ex-Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United centre-back Clayton Daniels was pleased with what he saw from Spurs WFC midfielder Zoe October. Daniels, who has ended the 2023/24 campaign as a free agent, sees October as a strong leader and carrier of the ball, traits he believes the South Africa youth international shares with his former teammate Brent Carelse.
What stood out to you the most about October?
"A very good footballer. I think she won the Player of the Tournament last year at the Engen. Very exciting player, a good ball carrier. She's a player who can decide a game at any moment when she feels like it. Just a cut above the rest, you know. Her football intellect, her carrying of the ball, identifying space, a very hard worker. She has those leadership qualities within the group. She carries her team very, very well and she carries herself well. You can see it on the field. Both left and right-footed."
Which professional footballer in South Africa or abroad does she play like?
"It's difficult to compare a player to another player, but if I look now... a prime Brent Carelse. He played for Ajax, Sundowns and for SuperSport. A prime Brent Carelse, when he carried the ball, when he carried the team, the leadership qualities he had... Zoe reminds me of him in that role as an attacking midfielder."
