The Annual Coaching Merry-Go-Round In Full Swing

The Annual Coaching Merry-Go-Round In Full Swing

It has become a trend in the last few seasons for coaches in the PSL to be hired and fired and rehired, and even re-fired again, all in one season. That's what we've come to expect from our beloved club bosses and board of executives.

It's absolutely mental to think that Chippa United, Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns, AmaZulu, Wits, Black Leopards, Golden Arrows and Orlando Pirates all had a change in coaching staff last season. That's a staggering 50% of the clubs in the PSL, who made changes to their head coaches in the 2012/13 campaign.

These changes in management saw coaches like Johan Neeskens, Maarten Stekelenburg, Roger Palmgren, Antonio Habas, Sunday Chidzambga and Wilfred Mugeyi leave their respective clubs, which meant that these coaches all formed part of the season's coaching merry-go-round.

The Siya crew broke the news of Polokwane City and head coach Duncan Lechesa parting ways this season, the 2013/14 season.

It started this season's circus of hiring and firing and naturally sparked more of the same. Last season it was Chippa United who started the coaching madness long before the end of Q1. Polokwane City's Brazilian-born physical trainer took charge of the side as caretaker coach, despite it public that he is not  ready to take over on a full-time basis.

Soccer-Laduma then exclusively revealed that Mark Harrison has taken over as the new head coach at Golden Arrows following the resignation of Manqoba Mngqithi, who had a poor start to the season, despite beating Wits 3-2 in the Telkom Knockout.

Now, the news of Clinton Larsen's resignation has just filtered into the offices of Soccer-Laduma and inevitably onto our web and mobi site. This makes the 2013/14 Absa Premiership season dangerously close to last season's chaotic chopping and changing of coaches.

There are positions which now need to be filled and managers that need to step up to the plate so let's hope that this is the end of the circus which continues to break the hearts of those who love The Beautiful Game.
