With the 2013/14 PSL season up and running, it is promising to see a number of teams aiming and capable of challenging for silverware this season.
SuperSport United started their campaign strongly under coach Cavin Johnson, as the side is yet to lose a game from the four played so far.
Mamelodi Sundowns are doing well, especially after all the talk about their new signings and the squad of talented players that Pitso Mosimane is working with.
I am particularly impressed with AmaZulu and Mpumalanga Black Aces. From the games I have watched, I think these two teams will surprise many in the football fraternity this season.
Craig Rosslee is doing a fantastic job for Usuthu with the management of the team giving him their full support. Carlington Nyadombo is doing a remarkable job, while leading the team from the back, with players like Njabulo Manqana and Kulegani Madondo making sure that the likes of Bongani Ndulula and Ayanda Dlamini get enough supply to score goals for the side.
Aces, on the other hand, look like they have been playing in the PSL for some time, although the team has just been promoted from the NFD. The new players signed by the team seem to have adapted quickly to the team's culture and the way Clive Barker wants them to play this season.
I am happy with the way Barker is keeping the spine of last season's team, while using the new players to maintain the balance of the team. Bafana Nhlapo, Omar Hendricks, Sandile Zuke and Thabo Qalinge are some of the influential players in Barker's team, as they were in Jacob Sakala's side that won promotion through the PSL's Relegation/Promotion Playoffs.
With almost all the teams doing relatively well, except maybe for Polokwane City who have found the going tough in the PSL in their first season in the league, I would love to see club bosses showing faith in their coaches for the sake of continuity.
We reached this season's fourth round of the league with all the clubs having stuck with their men on the bench. Unlike last season, when we witnessed coaches shown the door after two games on the job, it seems that club bosses are pleased with the start of the season just like I am and the other fans of the game.
Coaches are working hard to prepare their teams week-in and week-out, with the aim of giving the supporters value for their money on match days.
Although Maritzburg United lost to Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, it didn't stop their coach, Ernst Middendorp, from going to the game between Aces and SuperSport United to prepare for his side's next game against Aces.
To me, that shows seriousness and willingness to improve. I just hope that club bosses will be patient this time and allow their coaches enough time to do their jobs.
With that said, I still believe that perennial title contenders Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, as well as teams like Wits and Platinum Stars will be going all out to chase silverware this season.
As defending league champions, Chiefs will try to retain the trophy although their job won't be easy as the league is becoming more competitive with each and every season.
Certainly, we have one of the best seasons of the PSL era with the 2013/14 campaign in progress and fans need to attend games regularly to make it even more interesting.
