Orlando Pirates slumped to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the defending champions, the University of Pretoria, in their opening MDC clash on Saturday afternoon.
AmaTuks went ahead just before the halftime break when Mpho Maruping headed home a corner from the left, before Sibusiso Mahlangu leveled matters for Pirates in the 71st minute, moments after AmaTuks missed a penalty.
Makhanya restored AmaTuks' lead in the 73rd minute, firing home from close range, before Lucky Mathosi sealed the win for the Champions with a clinical left-footed from the edge of the area.
Golden Arrows 3-1 Mamelodi Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns began their campaign with a shock 3-1 loss to Golden Arrows on Saturday afternoon.
Arrows opened the scoring in the eighth minute through Nduduzo Sibiya, before captain Kwanele Hlongwane doubled the lead with a composed finish.
Sibusiso Sibeko managed to add a third for Arrows 10 minutes after the halftime break, while Sundowns grabbed a consolation through Ntandonyenkosi Ngubane in the 64th minute.
Platinum Stars 1-3 Maritzburg United
Maritzburg United recorded a 3-1 win over Platinum Stars in their opening Diski Challenge tie on Saturday morning.
Maritzburg raced into a two-goal thanks to strikes from Khumbulani Banda and Menzi Chili, before Dikwena pulled one back via Sipho Senne in the 68th minute.
However, the Team of Choice sealed the win in stoppage time when Bandile Shandu slotted home from close range.
Chippa United 0-1 Mpumalanga Black Aces
Mpumalanga Black Aces beat Chippa United 1-0 in the Diski Challenge opener on Saturday morning.
The only goal of the game arrived in the 22nd minute courtesy of a strike from Judas Mosemaedi.
