Pirates took the lead through a stunning strike from Thamsanqa Gabuza, however Etoile were able to keep Bucs quiet for much of the rest of the encounter and grabbed a late equaliser and take the advantage heading into the second leg.
Benzarti has indicated that he thinks his side should have come away with a win and, disclosed that his tactics to close the Buccaneers wingers worked well on the day.
"I think we played very well. We were supposed to win this game. The goal we scored in the first half was not an off-side and then we had a penalty which was not given," Benzarti told Soccer Laduma.
"It was a well-balanced game as Pirates also had their chances. Nothing (surprised me much about Pirates) because we have watched them play, and the way they have played in the tournament hasn't really changed.
"They are a good attacking side, so we planned to close them down on the wings and that helped us not to let them score."
