Tinkler's charges took the lead in the first half through a stunning Thamsanqa Gabuza strike and it look as though they would accomplish their mission of keeping a clean sheet.
However, it wasn't to be as Etoile du Sahel grabbed a late equaliser to take the advantage going into the second leg of the final on Sunday.
"First of all, I have to give a message of thanks to all the Bucs faithful who came out in their numbers on Saturday," Tinkler told Soccer Laduma.
"I also noticed a number of supporters from other clubs as well, which was really good. Thank you all for the support and the atmosphere that was created at the stadium. It was fantastic! I think that helped tremendously.
"Obviously we wanted to keep a clean sheet but we only managed to do that for 87 minutes and then let ourselves down with a lapse in concentration. They managed to get an equaliser but I still think we performed well.
"They are a good team; you can't take that away from them. I thought we coped very well and possibly could have scored another one. At least we didn't lose the game, which is more important."
