SuperSport's 2-2 aggregate win via away goals over ZESCO United set up a crunch clash with Club Africain in the penultimate round, and their head coach believes that doing well in this sort of competition can benefit Bafana Bafana going forward. Speaking in Zambia after the game, Tinkler said, "I think as a club we're very determined, and the players themselves are extremely determined to go as far as possible in this competition. In terms of what it means for us as individuals and as a club, it means that we grow stronger and stronger. "My philosophy has always been that South African clubs need to take this competition more seriously because you'll reap the rewards not only at club level but also at national team level. I think it's probably one of the reasons why our national team is not competing the way it should be." He said, "From a players' perspective it's great what Sundowns have done, and the country certainly gets behind the teams that do go and respect South Africa on the continent… "It's good for South African football that Sundowns went and won the Champions League last year, but we want to create our own legacy and our own history. We want a silver star on our shirts, so we're fully focused on what we do and fully focused on taking ourselves to that next level."
