CAF Confederation Cup

Result: SuperSport United 2-2 Horoya

Date: 12 May 2017

Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium

SuperSport United began their CAF Confederation Cup group stage campaign with a 2-2 draw against Guinea outfit Horoya on Friday evening.

Stuart Baxter's charges enjoyed an encouraging start with Fagrie Lakay causing a few problems with his pace in the opening 10 minutes.

Horoya started gaining momentum after 20 minutes and enjoyed a lot of the possession in the middle of the park, although chances were hard to come by.

The visitors eventually went on to break the deadlock in the 33rd minute when Jean Francios Ebele rose above Mario Booysen to head home from close range after the SuperSport defence failed to deal with a long throw-in.

However, Horoya's joy only lasted five minutes as Keagan Ritchie drew SuperSport level with a superb free-kick from 25-yards out.

The sides went into the break with the score locked at 1-1.

The visitors restored their lead five minutes after the break when Sebe Baffour fired home an effort from distance.

SuperSport pushed for a way back into the encounter with the likes of Grant Kekana and Aubrey Modiba going close just before the 60-minute mark.

Baxter then opted for a change after 64 minutes when Modiba made way for Thuso Phala as they pushed for an equaliser.

With time running out, Jeremy Brockie was introduced with 15 minutes remaining, and it was his dummy that allowed Phala to run through on goal and slot into the bottom corner in the 82nd minute.

SuperSport pushed for a winning goal in the closing stages and they went close through Phala, who volleyed wide of the upright from close range, as the sides earned a share of the spoils.

Here's how they lined up:

SuperSport: Pule, Kekana, Mashamaite, Booysen, Ritchie, Furman, Letsholonyane, Morton, Masango (Brockie 73'), Modiba (Phala 64'), Lakay (Mokoena 85').
