The Clever Boys were defeated 2-1 by El Nasr in Egypt over the weekend in a result that saw them fall to the bottom of Group C, and with two games left to play they need to try and make sure they pick up six points.
It was Haashim Domingo who managed to bag Wits' first goal of the groups in the absence of Gift Motupa – who was not in the matchday squad at all for the game – but the damage was already done despite the Clever Boys once again having more possession and more shots than their African opposition.
Now, with a game against Horoya away from home later this month and a home clash against Djoliba in their final group game in the first week of February, anything less than back-to-back victories is likely to see them fail to reach the knockout stages of the competition.
Wits group at present:
Horoya – 8 pts
Djoliba – 5 pts
El Nasr – 5 pts
Wits – 2 pts
Gavin Hunt was also without both Thulani Hlatshwayo and Sfiso Hlanti for the game in North Africa on Sunday evening, but will be eager to have them back for Wednesday night's encounter with Bloemfontein Celtic.
